How to name a post-apocalyptic character
The generator follows four rules. Steal them for naming anything in the wasteland by hand.
1. Start with a scar or a job
Wasteland names come from what happened to you or what you do, not from a christening. Rust, Sparks, the Mender, Two-Guns. Pick one hard trait and let it become the name.
2. A nickname beats a surname
One blunt word (Bones, Cinder, Chalk, Husk) lands harder than a full formal name. Most survivors go by a single handle, and the best ones sound scavenged.
3. Borrow from rust, fire, and salvage
The wasteland's vocabulary is industrial and burnt: gauge, tallow, ember, wire, gutter, chrome, ozone. Raid that word bank and the name feels lived in.
4. For groups, go menace plus a tool or animal
Gangs and crews name themselves to scare people: The Rusted Fangs, The Chrome Vultures, The Screaming Nails. Adjective plus a hard noun does the work.

Common questions
What is a good wasteland name?
A good wasteland name sounds scavenged, not invented. It leans on wear and salvage: a nickname like Rust or Sparks for a person, a worn compound like Rustwater or Tallowtown for a place. Pick a hard trait or material and build from it, or use the generator above.
How do I generate wasteland names?
Choose a type above (survivor, settlement, or mutant), hit generate, and you get twelve at a time. Tap any to copy. Each is built from an industrial, burnt-out word bank so it fits a wasteland setting.
Are these wasteland names free to use?
Yes, for anything: fiction, tabletop, gamertags, streams, or your own game. There is nothing to buy and no credit needed.
What can I use wasteland names for?
Survivor and character names, town and settlement names, and mutant or creature names for post-apocalyptic novels, tabletop RPGs, video games, and roleplay.
What makes a name sound like the wasteland?
Damage and industry. Wasteland names reference injury (Split-Lip, Half-Watt), salvage and materials (Scrap, Gauge, Rustwater), and menace for groups. Clean, formal names break it.
